THE PATTERN KEEPERS: EMMA RUBINSON

EPISODE 1. EMMA RUBINSON

Emma was the first of four incredible conversations we had in New York. Through this project, I’m exploring the importance of traditional craft, supporting local makers, and rediscovering the joy of fashion as exploration.

Emma and I explored how creativity in craft and fashion can be both vital and fun – a powerful means of self-expression and identity. We talked about the relationship between maker and wearer, and how every piece of clothing interacts with the world around us, saying something about who we are, whether deliberately or inadvertently.

Emma emphasises the processes behind each craft. We can utilise this knowledge to make well-informed, educated decisions when consuming.

This conversation reminded me just how interconnected fashion really is, and how important it is to understand and respect every part of that system whilst still having fun with it.

Thanks for watching, and look out for the second of four videos coming soon!

Thanks to Elizabeth Sweeney for filming and editing this video 😎😎😎😎
